Review by George Norman (Cybersecurity Editor)

The more you use your computer, the more information it collects about you, and that is worrisome from a security and privacy point of view. To make sure your personal data doesn’t end up in a cybercrook’s hand, to make sure that your personal data remains private, you should use a tool like PrivacyKeeper to find and remove all your online and offline tracks.

PrivacyKeeper performs and in-depth scan and uncovers several types of personal information: usernames and passwords that your browser saved; profiles that may include login credentials, credit card info, and other personal details; all the websites you visited (browsing history); chat records stored by instant messaging applications such as Skype; local records that expose your recent activity on the computer.

Once the scan completes, you can instruct PrivacyKeeper to remove all the personal information it has uncovered – but only if you bought a license and registered your copy. You see, the trial version doesn’t let you remove anything. It finds personal information, but it doesn’t remove it.

The system requirements for running PrivacyKeeper are: 1GHz Pentium 4 processor or better; 512MB of RAM or more; graphics card that can handle 1024x768 resolution; active internet connection; any Windows edition from Windows XP up to Windows 10.

Please note that the first time you run PrivacyKeeper, it will automatically initiate a system scan. When the scan completes, PrivacyKeeper will play an audio notification. I’m telling you this so you won’t be spooked when you hear a voice telling you that PrivacyKeeper is done scanning your PC.

To make sure your personal information doesn’t end up in the wrong hands, PrivacyKeeper finds and removes all your online and offline traces. It removes all the data that could put your privacy in jeopardy.

Pros

PrivacyKeeper’s system requirements are very low. The dark-themed interface is good looking and easy to use; the interface provides support for multiple languages. PrivacyKeeper finds and removes personal information that should remain private. The Sandbox feature automatically deletes specific websites from your browsing history when you close the browser.

Cons

The trial doesn’t remove any data. A nag screen shows up every time you want to close PrivacyKeeper. Even though you specifically tell PrivacyKeeper that you want to quit, it doesn’t actually close and remains active in the system tray.
